During Operation Market Garden the Guards Armoured Division led the advance from the breakout to the capture of the bridges at Nijmegen and their engineers were responsible for keeping the advance going at all costs. Positioned at the head of the column, they were prepared to bridge any and all waterways along the way. Amongst numerous tasks, they built a triple-single Bailey bridge at Zon overnight and cut the wires to the road bridge at Nijmegen. This book examines in detail how they performed the extraordinary tasks that they were presented with.
